July has been a very important month for Mantra, as we proudly served as an official sponsor at the prestigious Sub-Saharan Africa Security Conference (SASCON) 2025, hosted by ASIS Chapter 206 Lagos, Nigeria.

SASCON conferences have proven to be highly influential in sharing cutting-edge security solutions and industry best practices from across Africa. The 2025 event, themed “Strategic Approaches to Security in Complex Africa,” highlighted the urgent need for adaptive and multi-dimensional strategies to combat evolving threats across Nigeria and the continent.

This year’s conference welcomed hundreds of delegates, 15 expert speakers and high-ranking officials from over 20 countries. Several Nigerian dignitaries also attended, including the Director General, Department of State Services, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, emphasising the importance of the event to the future of national and regional security.

Thought Leadership in Security and Technology

The event featured powerful keynote addresses and panel sessions on emerging security challenges and suggested innovative approaches. One notable highlight was the keynote address by Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, PhD, CON, former Governor of Ekiti State and President of the Forum of Regions of Africa (FORAF). His session focused on the event’s main theme of tackling insecurity in Africa through collaboration and innovation.

He identified critical issues, such as poor infrastructure, weak governance systems and youth unemployment as key drivers of insecurity in Africa and advocated for stronger partnerships among African nations, emphasising the need for intelligence-sharing and coordinated responses among regional bodies such as ECOWAS.

Dr. Kayode Fayemi stressed the significance of structured collaboration between government agencies and private security companies, such as Mantra, highlighting the growing role of  the private sector in providing operational support and community-level intelligence gathering. He also discussed the role of artificial intelligence (AI), surveillance technologies and data analytics in creating smarter, more proactive security systems across the continent.

This keynote address along with other sessions, including “Getting Ahead with AI: Practical Tools for Next Generation Security Professionals in Africa” and “Securing Africa’s Future: Technology, Culture and the Changing Face of Threats”, were very well received by the audience.
